Weekly Match Summary Reports

Happy freedom anniversary to our Pakistani and Indian league members. This weekend saw some fireworks befitting the freedom celebration in the sub-continent.

Achievements:

Fifty Scorers

  • Nitin Bharadwaj (CSU) scored fastest fifty in CCL in 17 balls. He scored 76* in 26 balls.
  • Aravind Sampath (CSU) scored 85 runs.
  • Prasad Sethumadhavan (CSU) 78 runs.
  • Vijay Venkatesh (Gold) scored 76* against Green.
  • Govind Unkalkar (Gold) scored a brillian fifty.

    Bowling Performances:

  • Anshu Boonapalli (Green) took 3 wickets.
  • Shrini (Gold) playing his debut game took 3 wickets.
  • Nadeem Rafiq (FCCC) took 4 wickets against LCC.
  • Aravind Sampath (CSU) took 5-15 againts RBCC.

The run feast at Lower Garden Acres:

No chronological order of describing this weekend's games. CSU piled up CCL records after records and I can't imagine of discussing anything better than that.

The highest total (perhaps) ever 310, highest first wicket partnership 187, the quickest fifty in 18 balls. These were all achieved by CSU team against RBCC.

CSU batting first scored 310/5 (Three Hundred Ten - Just in case you think 310 was a typo). Aravind Sampath and Prasad Sethumadhavan scored (perhaps) a CCL record opening wicket partnership of 187. Aravind scored 85, Prasad 78.

But these all efforts would look like efforts from mere mortals when compared to what one mild mannered CSU student named Nitin Bharadwaj did. Not only did he score a fifty, but he SCORED FIFTY IN 18 balls. RBCC must have wished that he shuts his shutters there, but no, he went on to score 76* in 26 balls. The only thing that creaps into mind while keying in these words is rather selfish thought that Thank Lord I was not bowling.

The only way Nitin could be stop was by the loud That is OVER and also INNINGS break shout of Rohit Madhok (umpire).

While chasing an unthinkably huge total of 310 RBCC started in worse imaginable way when they lost Joseph in the first over. RBCC were all out for 101 in 32.3 overs. Aravind sampath riding high on his 85 runs innings came to take 5 wickets for 15 runs.

    Green vs Gold at Longmont

    Gold 9/205 (40) (Vijay 76*, Govind 56; Anshu 3 wickets)
    Green 123 (30) (Sameer 19; Mosur 3-15, Shrini 3-24)

Gold won the toss and elected to bat. At the first drinks break the score was 1/68 (13), Rajesh Mosur the batsman out adjudged lbw off Raghu G.

At the second drinks break Gold had moved their score to 3/127 from 27 overs. Captain Govind Unkalkar has led from the front with his maiden fifty in the CCL, finally out for a very well made 56. The rest of the Gold top order have chipped in contributions, but this is the substantial one.

At close Gold finished with 9/205, Vijay the standout batsman coming in at one down and finishing 76*. This is also his maiden CCL fifty, chanceless until he had reached that landmark, where he was dropped a couple times afterwards. Green captain Anshu Boonapalli was the standout bowler, picking up 3 wickets. Probably too tall of a task for Green to win this, but cricket is a funny game indeed!

Chasing the mammoth target Green were never in the hunt. Making his CCL debut, Shrini bowled quick and picked up 3 wickets. Somewhat relaxing, Gold tried out different bowling options, one being the almost unheard of bowler Rajesh Mosur. He has actually rolled his arm over once or twice before, and has a wicket to his name. Today he took 3 wickets in the experiment. Only Sameer could post any kind of runs, falling for 19. The result was a foregone conclusion, Green were bowled out for 123 in 30 overs.

Next week Green travels to FCCC and Gold hosts LCC.

LCC vs FCC at Fort Collins

    LCC 97 (39) (Vamshi 26*; Nadeem 4-20, Gopal 3-16)
    FCCC 6/98 (23) (Dipal 28*, Ganesh 19; Kit 3-25)

FCCC won the toss and elected to bowl. At the first drinks break the score was 5/35, Nadeem had absolutely destroyed the top order.

Dipal struck first by bowling Chuck in the very first over. AJ soon flashed Nadeem high to second slip where Gopal held onto a stunner. Kit was looking to upset Nadeem's rhythm, standing two crease lengths out! Nadeem replied with two rising deliveries, one past the shoulder and the other just under his arm pits. The next ball was fuller and Kit played on.

Phani had been looking good until Rajesh Idate trimmed the top of the bails with a terrific incutter. Aaesome was looking very ominous, pulling short balls with utter ease and disdain. Nadeem then foxed him with a slower ball that went straight through the gate.

LCC staged a minor fightback and managed to finish with a score of 97. Some late order hitting and contributions helped them achieve this total. Gopal snared 3 wickets in the late-overs rush for runs, Nadeem finished his quota with those 3 important top order scalps. It remains to be seen if this total is enough. While one would expect FCCC to make it comfortably, they have shown they can collapse on more than one occasion.

In reply FCCC won the game without being in any real serious pressure, giving a couple cheap wickets but it was never any real doubt about the outcome. Ganesh started solidly and once again Dipal brought it home. For LCC Kit picked up two wickets with some very tight bowling.

Next week LCC travels to Gold and FCCC hosts Green.
