WEEK 15 (August 20th and 21st) Bowlers domination week
Weekly Match Summary Reports - Bowlers domination week
|
My good friend Nadeem Rafiq is not only a great bowler but also a gem of a person. We talked for about 30-45 minutes in which he tried to convince me that his bowling performance of 7 overs 10 runs and 8 wickets was a mere fluke. He wanted me to pick Arvind Gupta of Gold for his brilliant batting and awesome wicket keeping as Player of the Week.
Taking 8 wickets is neither a fluke nor it should go without recognition. This was in fact the second best bowling ever in the history of CCL. The best was by one of the best in-swing bowlers that this league ever saw, Arun Thuldar (BVCC and Gold) on July 12th 1998 against LCC; his stats were 7.2 overs 5 maidens 3 runs and 8 wickets. That performance was on a mine-field of a pitch and Arun, in past, has confided in me that in that performance he did not even celebrate a single wicket.
"This was the best bowling performance that I ever saw in last 24 years of playing in CCL" was Mike Riely's take on Nadeem's performance.
"Jarrar, Nadeem's spell was unplayable and all of the balls were genuinely wicket taking missiles" Shashank Shekhar (CCCC President) told me.
Achievements
Ganesh Sharma (FCCC) scored 81 (58),
Nadeem Rafiq (FCCC) 7 overs, 10 runs and 8 wickets.
Arvind Gupta (Gold) scored 48 runs and took 4 catches behind the stumps.
Govind Unkalkar (Gold) 4 wickets,
Sam George (Gold) 36 very brisk runs
Jarrar Jaffari (Gold) 7.3 overs, 21 runs and 6 wickets.
Green @ FCCC:
FCCC while batting first put up 214 runs, with Ganesh Sharma scoring a magnificient 81 (58).
Green were all out for 39. Nadeem's 7 overs 10 runs and 8 wickets demolished Green's hope of winning the game.
At one point Green were 16/9; it was heroics of the last wicket that Green scored 39.
LCC at CCCC-Gold:
LCC won the toss and invited Gold to bat first. Gold while batting first put up 195/9. 195 was made possible by a brilliant innings of 45+ by Gold's stand-in wicketkeeper and some huge hits by Sam George who put up 36 runs virtually in no time.
LCC were all out in the 14th over on a score well under 100. LCC could not stand against the Gold's opening bowling attack, and Gold at no point had to change the bowlers. It was a race between Govind and Jarrar who were taking wickets after wickets. Jarrar finished the day with his best CCL figures of 7.3 overs 21 runs and 6 wickets. Govind who has been in form with ball took 4 wickets.
Aravind Gupta who earlier scored 45+ runs, was absolutely superb with the gloves behind the stumps. He took 4 beautiful catches adjusting to some good outswingers at a pace that is never easy.
This game took Govind's total wickets tally to 29 for the season.
CSU won against RBCC by 4 wicket.
Can someone send me or Mike details of the game ?
