CCL-EC-2009 1st Newsletter

News Letter

It has been a hectic last couple of months to get things in to order and preparing our League for season 2009. I would like to report to the League what has happened so far to better our League and put us at the forefront of the cricket map of USA.

January - March 2009

After the AGM on January 24th and the election of CCL EC, I am happy to report that EC is working as a team and taking on tasks in a professional manner. Things are clicking and every member of the EC understands his role and there is renewed passion and energy.
EC has been transparent and communicative about it's agenda, ideas and philosophy and it will continue to take it forward. EC is always approachable and is always an email away. If you have some thing to suggest, or need clarification on, please send an email to ccl-ec@yahoogroups.com.

Finances:

I am happy to announce that we started off this year with sufficient reserves in our bank and the Penalties and Fines implemented last year complemented it. How ever we have considerable expenses coming up this year and having the financing helps. We do however need to continue our efforts in building up our finances going forward in terms of sponsorship and contributions from our member clubs.

CW Tournament:

Colorado is hosting the 2009 Central West Tournament and efforts are underway to make this a memorable event. Teams from the Central West Region will participate and the event will happen on Memorial Day Weekend, i.e. May 23 - 24. Two grounds have been sourced for this tournament, namely Boltz Junior High and Lincoln Junior High in Fort Collins, CO.

EC nominated the following to Selection Committee: Ganesh Sharma, Arun Tholudur and Phani Kolaraja, and am happy to report that LMC approved these nominations.

Selection Committee convened and selected the Cougar Probables. You should be able to see the posting of that on our web site. The Selection Committee will be announcing the practice schedule for the Cougar Probables shortly. I request all the Clubs to render their support to SC in helping make the practices possible.

Committees:

EC has set up the following committees to help out with various tasks:

i. Formats and Scheduling Committee
Nadeem Rafiq, Tahir Rana and Dipal Patel form the committee. They are tasked with standardizing the length of the season and the championships. They will continue and add to the document that a similar committee came up last year. This committee is also tasked with coming up with the Game and Umpiring Schedule for 2009.

ii. CW Tournament Organizing Committee
Yasir Anwar, Prasad Malvankar and Faiq Majeed form the committee. They are in charge of planning, logistics and execution of the Central West Tournament.

iii. Constitutional Amendment Committee
Gopal Susarla, Kervyn Dimney and Amitabh Trehan form the committee. During the AGM and upon comments from various members, it has been determined that our constitution needs a facelift as there are quite a few things that outdated and archaic. Also, our constitution is spread out over multiple documents making it hard to understand. This committee will clean up the documents and come up with Constitutional Amendment Proposals that will be tabled for LMC's review. An EGM will be called for once LMC's review is completed.

CACU:

Our Colorado Association of Cricket Umpires has come up with new Game rule proposals that are in line with the current ICC rules and also proposed a few changes in the captain's reporting. These proposals are being discussed within LMC and will be put up for a vote soon. CACU has also announced Umpiring Clinics on April 18th and April 25th at 11am in Fort Collins, Longmont, Littleton and Colorado Springs. Clubs are requested to contact CACU at cacu-ec@yahoogroups.com and let them know how many players are showing to get certified for umpiring.

USACA & CWBoD

USACA recently had their elections and they chose Don Lockerbie as the CEO of USACA. Things are exciting at that level and Don brings with him a wealth of experience of running an organization of this size.
Central West Board of Directors also had their elections recently for the Chairman and Secretary position. With a full house now in place, CWBoD now has the critical mass needed to make things happen and there is effort underway to standardize various processes and kick start Youth and Women's Cricket in the region.

Looking forward to good cricket in 2009!

Gopal Susarla
President, CCL
