Weekly Match Summary Reports

UNM vs BCC:
---------------------
UNM captain's report:
This was a replay of a washed out match but the conditions were not promising since it was cloudy. The match started with UNM winning the toss and electing to bat. The innings was opened by Sanjay Bhakta and Munik Shrestha (Munik has played international cricket for Nepal and has recently joined UNM after having studied and played cricket at Haverford college). Munik showed his pedigree straight away by playing some nice pull shots and easily racing away to around 37 runs off a UNM total of 46 in 7 overs when rain stuck - the slow rain and drizzle continued throughout the day forcing abandonment of the match for a second time!

UNM vs CSCC:
----------------
UNM captain's report:
This was also a rescheduled match. UNM travelled from Denver where they had stayed overnight and which was now sunny and bright to CO springs which was under a heavy cloud cover. It had rained there but the CSCC team did a great job fixing the field and the pitch even before UNMCC arrived. No umpires had come for the game so both teams had to umpire amongst themselves. UNMCC won the toss and batted. Munik pulled the CSCC opening bowler to two fours in the first over itself to start the proceedings. The first wicket partnership soon crossed 50 but UNM lost two wickets to bring in another player who was debuting for UNM Harlan Hobbes (Harlan has played a good level of cricket in Sri Lanka). Harlan played a steady hand and UNMCC were very well placed when Munik got out for a very well made 77 in the 32nd over. Due to wet outfield, the ball had become heavy and slippery and scoring was not easy. With useful contribution from the later batsmen UNMCC put up a very good total of 186 runs for CSCC to chase down.
With probably the best batting attack in the league CSCC began chasing the target in that manner - Vicky and Kervyn raced away to 81 runs in 9 overs and 100 in 11 overs helped by wides and poor catching by UNM dropping 3 catches. The game turned when Vicky was caught by Harlan off Dharmesh. Dharmesh and Amitabh bowled a tight spell to slow down CSCC. Kervyn was dropped off a bouncer by Amitabh but Amitabh got him bowled in the next over. CSCC's scoring slowed down a lot and UNMCC smelled a chance. Harlan bowled very well totally drying up the runs from one end and Dharmesh opened up the CSCC innings with 4 wickets. 2 runouts along the way brought the match to an unexpected situation where they needed 16 runs off the last wicket with 8 overs to spare - fortunately their last wickets were Swadeep and Nana. The sun also came out for a few minutes, and CSCC made it home in the end in this roller coaster match.
