Spartan's captain and Man of the Match Santhosh Kumar's(Sunny) 93* runs helped his team score the highest team total(197) in a CCL TennisCricket T20 game.
Spartans v Denver Chargers 29-July-2012 @ Erie - Reported by Mohan Reddy (Spartans)
It was a gloomy day with dark clouds across Erie ready to pour down anytime, however the sun decided to grace the glorious cricket field much to the bewilderment of players who were worried about the weather.
Spartans had lost their only match played at Erie to Wyocc during the Quarter finals and were clueless that a record would be created at the same ground which gave them a bitter taste.
It was a pay back time for Spartans since they were beaten by Denver Chargers on their previous encounter as well.
Spartans won the toss and chose to bat.
With a new vigour and desire to grab their victory by the scruff of the neck Spartans set about the task hungrily.
The new combination of Nagendra and Sandeep G had to contend with an opening attack of Rishi and Dileep. When things started to look good Dileep picked up the first wicket of Sandeep who gave away a catch to Veeresh. Kishore stepping in next was dismissed soon in a similar fashion by Dileep giving away the cath to Veeresh again. Not allowing the new batsmen to settle down Novel picked up both Mohan and Keshav in a single over.
Spartans were thrown into a defense mode all of a sudden losing very quick wickets struggling at 27/4 in 7overs to a disciplined bowling attack.
It was time for skipper Santhosh Kumar(Sunny) to step onto the field and bring some shine when Chargers were ready to pounce on their next prey.
Sunny started his journey slowly along with Nagendra posting a total of 60 runs in 10overs at break.
It is impossible to relay the sights and sounds of an amazing batting display but these words will have to do.
Little did Chargers know there would be some serious action with a lot of fireworks when Milind started his first spell post break.
Milind was hit for 3 boundaries by Sunny.
Vikas stepping in was hit for 2 boundaries as well.
Intentions looking very clear Chargers skipper Madhu stepped in to take control, however two boundaries with a huge six left him running out of options. Dileep who picked two wickets earlier was brought into the attack, Sunny continued his damage with a huge six followed by 2 consecutive boundaries to reach his first 50 of the season.
Spartans who had scored 60 runs in the first 10overs scored their next 66 runs in mere 5 overs.
Nagendra who opened the innings for Spartans provided excellent support completing his maiden 50(38) with 4 boundaries to be dismissed by Novel immediately after his 50. Novel picked up 2 more wickets of his final over trying to slow down things.
Losing quick wickets did not prevent Sunny from continuing his brutal attack, he scored hatrick boundaries and hit a huge six of the last ball of the final over.
Spartans posted a record highest team score of 194/7 in the CCL Tennis T20-20 league. See Scorecard
Novel picked up 4 wickets and Dilip picked up 3 wickets for Chargers.
Spartans started their bowling right on target by picking 1 wicket in the 1st delivery and next 5 wickets giving away only 16 runs.
With high target we tried all our new bowlers and were able to restrict chargers for 114 runs all out. Vikas 29 runs and Sai 21 runs were the scorers for chargers. Spartans WON by 81 runs.
Man of the Match: Santhosh Kumar(Sunny) for his unbeaten 93(52) studded with 13 fours and 3 sixes.
