RCC wins the Plate round of the 2017 CCL Twenty20 League

RCC defeated DCC on 10/8 (Sunday) to win the 2017 CCL Twenty20 Plate round. The match was played at Colorado Springs on a bright and sunny day saw RCC triumph DCC comprehensively.

Match Highlights:

DCC’s captain Harpreet won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first. DCC started off really well scoring 15 runs of the first over and were 51/1 at the end of 9th over of their innings. Opener Sameer Chavan scored a sparkling 29 runs of 31 balls. RCC came back strongly in the 10th over with Vikas Bajaj picking up two quick wickets to halt DCC momentum. Harpreet stayed till the end of their innings to score 18 runs off 19 balls but did not get requisite support from his fellow team mates from the other end. DCC kept losing wickets on regular intervals and were all out on 105.Vikas was the pick of the bowlers from RCC, picking 3 crucial wickets. Supported well by Satish picking 2 wickets and Sudarshan getting 1 with good economy rate.

In response, RCC started solidly with both openers Adarsh and Vikesh scoring quick boundaries and rotating strike at regular interval. After losing Adarsh’s wicket on 49, Abhijit and Vikesh played responsibly, dished out splendid shots all over the ground and chased down the score without breaking a sweat, with 5.2 over to spare and 9 wickets in hand. Vikesh scored his first maiden fifty in the CCL league and Abhijit remained unbeaten on 20. Vikas Bajaj and Vikesh Parmer jointly shared the MOM award.

Men of the Match: Vikas Bajaj for his 3-wicket haul and Vikesh Parmer for his maiden fifty.

RCC also defeated CSCC-Stars on 10/7 (Saturday) in the plate round semi-finals and it was an interesting match too. It went all the way down to the wire but the RCC team held their nerve to pull it off in style.

Match Highlights:

CSCC Stars Captain Prasanna won the toss and chose to bat first. CSCC started off well scoring 12 runs of the first over. RCC came back strongly in the 2nd over picking up the 1st CSCC wicket of Sandeep. Kervyn Dimney played well for his 22 and was nicely supported by Jayanth scoring 24 runs. Avinash played a very useful cameo of 21 runs at the end helped CSCC to post a total of 110 for 8. Akilesh was pick of the RCC bowlers picking up 4 wickets; Sudarshan bowled very economically giving away 10 runs in 4 overs and picking 2 wickets up in the process. Adarsh and Vikas picked up 1 wicket each.

CSCC knew with their bowling attack they can defend this score in their home ground. RCC lost their opener Adarsh quickly but Vikesh and Abhijit played sensibly and built a partnership of 49 runs. RCC was looking very much in control of the match with the batsmen picking up singles at will and striking occasional boundaries.

The game took a turn when Prasanna came in to bowl the 15th over and castled Abhijit with an inswinger. He subsequently ended up bowling a maiden over thus throwing pressure back on RCC. Prasanna came back strong again in the 17th over picking up 1 more wicket and giving away only 2 runs. RCC now needed 26 runs off 18 balls to close the game. Vikrant and Sudarshan played crucial innings scoring quickfire 14 and 10 runs to win the match in the last over sparing 4 balls and 5 wickets. Sudarshan played a fantastic six over the covers to bring up the win.

Man of the Match: Akilesh Reddy for picking up 4 wickets.

RCC was established in 2014 by Srinivas Tekkem along with few others and is a relatively newer club in the CCL mix. RCC is maturing northwards by the year and constantly challenging the established CCL teams. This year RCC have won some interesting games but also lost couple of close matches in the T20 league, while one match got curtailed due to the rain interruption. The team has now got the right blend of experience & youth and is currently incubating well under the leadership of Vikrant Thakre(Captain) and Adarsh Sharma(Vice-Captain). RCC is certainly the team to watch for in the coming years in the CCL.
