FCCC @ LCC-L: T20 qualifier, Sep 23rd, 2018 - Reported by Bodhayan Chakraborty(LCC-L)

The two table toppers of the T20 league met against each other to secure one of the final berths on this beautiful Sunday morning at Cornerstone Park. Both the teams knew that they’ll have another chance to shoot for the final even if they lose, but they didn’t want to keep it hanging for the second eliminator.
Lions captain Dharam won the toss and didn’t hesitate to bat first. Lions knew that they need to score minimum 160 to challenge the deep FCCC batting lineup. Dhiren and Dharam opened the innings for Lions facing Naveen from FCCC. After three uneventful overs, where both the Lions openers looked a little cautious, Dhiren opened up from the 4th over. He deposited Dipal towards wide long on for a huge six and next over he swiveled Naman towards backward square leg for another huge six. In the powerplay, Lions accumulated 38 runs and importantly without losing any wicket.
In the 7th over, Dhiren hit two more sixes of Naman, one towards mid-wicket and one over long on. One of the best shot of the day came in the 8th over when Dhiren swatted almost an off-stump yorker from Rajesh towards backward point for six. You need to see the video even if this shot is possible in cricket or not!! Darshan was introduced in the 9th over and it was like Dharam was waiting for it. So far, he was subdued compared to Dhiren’s onslaught, the introduction of Darshan seemed like ignited him. He deposited the second ball from Darshan towards deep square leg for a huge six. Dhiren also didn’t disappoint and hit another huge six of Darshan’s same over.
Dhiren brought up his 50 in the 10th over when he made room to cut Rajesh over deep point for another six. He was dropped next ball when Venkatesh spilled a skier at long off. Lions went to the drinks break at 83 for no loss. Fort Collins by that time knew that if they don’t get few quick wickets after the break, they’ll be looking at more than 180 to chase.
The 11th over didn’t go the way what Fort Collins were looking for and exactly what Lions wanted. Darshan came for his 2nd over and was thrashed for 23 runs in that over. Dharam hit him for three consecutive sixes. Venkatesh came to bowl from the far end and he probably bowled the smartest among all Fort Collins bowlers. His first over was uneventful and in his 2nd over, he got the big wicket of Dhiren. Dhiren made 76 of 48 balls by that time with 2 fours and 8 huge sixes.
Bodha joined Dharam and they continued with the same momentum. Dharam hit Naman for two sixes in the 15th over and Bodha hit Venkatesh for a six in the 16th over. Bodha got out in the 18th over trying to clear long off of Venkatesh. Jay joined Dharam and after hitting a few more boundaries, Dharam also got out to Rajesh in the 19th over. He made a well compiled 73 of 50 with one four and 7 sixes. Jay remained not out for 22 in 10 balls that included two huge sixes. Lions ended their innings at 197 for 3.
Fort Collins opened with Dipal and Naveen. They knew if they need to come any closer to the huge Lions score, they needed a solid start and need to get a lot of runs in the powerplay. Even though they didn’t lose early wickets, they didn’t get many runs either against the accurate bowling of Dhiren and Manoj. When Raj was introduced in the 5th over, FCCC thought they had an opportunity and tried to go hard against him. But, even though Raj is slow, he is accurate. He got Dipal first very well caught behind the stump by Sakthi. The next ball, he got Darshan who chipped straight to Jay at short midwicket. Faiq joined Naveen and after hitting couple of boundaries, he became the next victim of Raj trapped right in front. Jay got Santanu next over trapped in front as well and when Raj got Naveen in the next over well caught by Dhiren at long on, the contest was all but over. Jay got Sagar who was surprised by a well-directed bouncer. After the 10th over, FCCC were 61/6.
Venkatesh, Gopal, Rajesh and Nikhil hit a few boundaries after that, but that was never going to be enough for FCCC and finally they bundled for 148 in 18.5 overs. Raj was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets. Bhavya got 3 wickets, Jay got 2 and Manoj got 1. LCC-Lions won this game by 49 runs and by virtue of this win, they became the first team to secure the final berth.

Man of the Match: Dharam Patel was declared MoM for his superb batting effort of 73 of 50 (1x4 and 7x6) to take his team to the T20 final.

RCC @ CCCC Gold: T20 – 12AM Sunday Sep 23, 2018 at Memorial Park Rose Bowl, Colorado Springs- Reported by Vikesh Parmar)

On a very hot fall day, RCC hosted CCCC Gold. RCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Vikesh and Vikrant started RCC inning. CCCC bowlers started with excellent medium pace bowling with some tight line and length, giving no lose balls to RCC openers. Vikrant fell early trying to up the ante in 3rd over. Satish joined Vikesh in middle, CCCC bowlers kept the pressure with excellent bowling. At the end of 6 overs RCC scored only 18 runs at the loss of one wicket. Satish soon fell due to an unfortunate run out. Abhijit joined Vikesh and both started to rotate the strike well for next few overs. RCC were 39 runs at the end of 10 over, & it looked like RCC going to fell short of a decent total if current run rate continues on it current trajectory. In second half of the inning RCC batsman started to play freely, Abhijit and Rajdeep feel quickly after the break trying to play big shots. Srikant joined Vikesh when score was 57 in 12.2 overs, both started to run hard in middle, utilizing the long boundaries of the ground by converting single in doubles and doubles in 3. Both batsman pressed hard at the pedal toward the end of inning scoring 75 runs in last 5 overs, Shrikant in particularly played some big shots scoring 42 in just 23 balls. RCC in desperate need of wickets introduce Akhilesh who provided the break through on his first ball of the match by getting Sandeep out clean bowled. Akhilesh stuck again in same over by getting Vaidyanathan out caught. IN next over Srinivasan was also returned to dugout thanks to an excellent running catch by Rajdeep. CSCC-Stars @ FRCC-A: Twenty20 – 9:30 am Sunday September 23, 2017 at Lower Garden Acres, Longmont - Reported by Shrishailesh Chari(FRCC-A)

The game started on time with FRCC-A winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Santosh and Keryn came out to bat against Subhashish and Chaitanya from FRCC-A. But it was a very short stay for Santosh as he inside edged a cut shot onto his stumps off his very first delivery which came in from Subhashish Dash to be dismissed for a golden duck. Sandeep Dubakka joined Keryn at the crease. It was Sandeep’s lucky day as he was dropped thrice by Shrishailesh at square leg, Girish at slip and Chaitanya off his own bowling. He made of the most of his lives as he hit the over pitched deliveries over the fence to give the innings some momentum. But Kervyn could not help Sandeep as he was dismissed caught by Sanket at long off, off a low full toss from Shrishailesh for 6(6). This brought Vikas to the crease. Vikas who had played very well against FRCC-A the last time they faced off in the first round, was at it again. He along with Sandeep built a 99 run partnership which threatened to take CSCC-Stars to a mammoth total. Vikas hit some beautiful sixes over cover to impart momentum to the innings. Sandeep and Vikas both brought up their 50s in the partnership. Just when the game seemed to drift away from FRCC-A, Smitesh and Murali bowled beautiful spells to pull the game back. Both bowled economically and built the pressure which lead to Sandeep being dismissed by Murali being caught by Smitesh at short cover for a well made 55(56). Next in Jayanth did not last long as Subhashish returned and dismissed Vikas 50(38) and Jayanth 2(4) in the same over with some brilliant fast bowling as Vikas holed out to Smitesh at long on and Jayanth edged one to the keeper Sumeet trying to slog. Next in Hamayun known for his big hitting, did exactly that as he hit some lusty blows, especially off Subhashish’s last over when he hit 2 sixes to finish at 27(12) unbeaten to take CSCC_Stars’ innings total to 157. Prasanna was the last player dismissed run out by Subhashish off the last ball for 3(4). For FRCC-A, Subhashish was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-37-3 while Shrishailesh and Murali took 1 wicket each.

In response, FRCC-A did not start very well as Amal was dismissed for a golden duck in the very first over of the innings as he edged a hook off a well directed bouncer by Prasanna to the Keeper Vikas. This brought the captain Rohit Saini to join Sumeet Khule who looked in ominous touch as he got a few dollies from Santosh to kick start his innings. FRCC-A managed to play out Prasanna’s first spell without any more casualties although, Rohit edged a beautiful delivery from Prasanna which went away after pitching, which Vikas the wicket-keeper dropped. Sumeet at the other end was severe on the bad balls as he was managing to get a six every over off the lone bad delivery that the CSCC-Stars’ bowlers bowled. But Rohit did not last long as he was trapped right in front of the stumps by a full delivery bowled by Kervyn as he tried to flick it to the leg side for 3(10). Next in Sanket Sharma survived the initial nervous period for him as he cached in on balls outside his offstump which happen to be his strong zone to hit a couple of huge sixes over cover to get himself going. All along, Sumeet did not show any signs of slowing down as he kept hitting the ball over the ropes with consistency as he brought off his 50 off 26 balls. At this point, the game seemed to be slipping away from CSCC-Stars, but they had a glimmer of hope when Sumeet sliced a shot in the air on the off side. Prasanna the fielder running in to take the catch, overran the catch and dropped Sumeet and the game. Sumeet composed himself after that and there was no looking back for him. It was exhibition batting from Sumeet as he kept hitting every bowler over the ropes all over the park as he made light work of the total. Sanket unfortunately did not manage to finish the innings as he holed off to Kervyn at long on off Santosh’s bowling to be dismissed for a well made 39(38). Next in Subhashi Dash did not have much to do as Sumeet managed to reach a well deserved century with a 4 off Hamayun’s bowling to take FRCC-A over the line. When Sumeet gets going, no target is too steep as he proved here chasing down 158 in 17.5 overs. His ability to hit all around the park and consistently is a hallmark of a top player. We have been lucky enough to witness such a masterclass from him for the second time this season following his heroics against CCB.

For CSCC-Starts, Prasanna was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-18-1 which included a wonderful opening spell. Santosh and Kervyn took 1 wicket each.

Man of the Match: Sumeet Khule for his batting masterclass scoring 101 unbeaten off 53 balls which included 11 sixes and 3 boundaries taking FRCC-A over the line comfortably in the chase.

After the power play Adithyan rotated the strike while Ben hit few lusty blows to reach his 50 in the 10th over. First wicket fell in 12th over when Adithyan was bowled by Sudheer and by that time BCC needed 20 odd runs.
